I think most of “the cannon” is pretty good and is there for a reason (some is dull-I have always found Conrad to be unbearable for example) and is a better approach than what is used in some schools (the anti-Cannon) whereby only writers nobody has ever heard of (for good reason) are read. Everybody has their own tastes obviously and if you love reading, read as much as possible and you will discover so much.
